The House Wine Bar - Review

The House Wine Bar is a new venue located in the quite backwater called Goose Green. For those that don't know where Goose Green is, you can find it by walking from the New Apollo Cinema past Fitness First over the bridge. It can also be accessed on foot from Stamford New Road, oopposite "The Place" bar.

Goose Green is a sleepy square surrounded by restaurants, boutiques and specialist shops. The House Wine Bar recently opened in the Square, next to The House Restaurant.

After a fantastic Steak dinner at The Brasserie, I decided to take my better half off the beaten track to visit The House Wine Bar after seeing it on Onionring. We had gone into Classroom for a drink, but walked out after about 30 seconds due to the choking smoke cloud stopping us from seeing each other!

At 10pm The House Wine Bar was fairly quiet, however the lack of smoke and comfortable furniture drew us in. The barman was very attentive and friendly and produced some very good cocktails including a Long Island Ice Tea with a secret twist. Certainly the best I have tasted, if a bit strong! Fair play to him, he let me have the remainder of the coke bottle to top up the cocktail to suit.

The best bit came soon after arriving when a pianist took his place behind an electric piano in the corner. He played a wide range of music from Beatles to Oasis to Elton John to Frank Sinatra, all of it note perfect and very entertaining.

We were told that they have live music on a Saturday too, I can only assume it would be just as good.

I would certainly recommend this bar for a nice break from the norm. If we lived closer I am sure I would find myself becoming a regular!
